La Sevilla de la Primera Vuelta al Mundo.
Esta es la Milla 0 de la Tierra. De aquí partió la expedición
Magallanes-Elcano, que fue la primera en circunnvagar
nuestro planeta entre 1519 y 1522.
La Iniciativa Ciudadana Sevilla 2019-2022, en representación
de las personas y organizaciones que promueven el
liderazgo de la ciudad en la conmemoración del quinto
centenario de aquella primera visión global del mundo,
promovió la instalación de este hito, a modo de esfera
armilar, como símbolo y como principio de la red colaborativa
mundial que se constituye con tal acontecimiento
como horizonte.

Seville of the first circumnavigation of the globe.
This is the 0 mile of the Earth. This is from where the
expedition of Magellan-Elcano departed to become the first
journey around our planet lasting from 1519-1522.
Seville citizens’ initiative representing people and
organizations that promote the leadership of the city In the
commemoration of the 500 anniversary of that first global
vision of the world, achieved the installation of this landmark
in the shape of Armillary Sphere, the latter being the symbol
and the first stone in the foundation of an international
collaboration network to be founded with this purpose.

En 2 de Agosto de 1519, en la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de
la Victoria, sita en el solar de este templo de san Vicente de
Paul, el Asistente de la ciudad de Sevilla, Sancho Martínez
de Leyva, y el Obispo de Velandia, Fray Francisco de
Córdoba, auxiliar del Arzobispo de Sevilla, entregaron en
acto solemne a Hernando de Magallanes, capitán general de
la armada de la Especiería, las banderas reales
de las cinco naos que partieron de Sevilla
el día de 10 de Agosto de dicho año.

Juan de Helorriaga Nao Trianidad. Capitán, Hernando de
Magallanes. Maestre, Juan Bautista Punzorol. Nao
Concepción. Capitán, Gaspar de Quesada. Maestre Juan
Sebastián Elcano. Nao Victoria. Capitán, Luis de Mendoza.
Maestre, Antonio Salomón. Nao Santiago. Capitán,
Juan Serrano. Maestre, Baltasar Ginovés.
Tan solo una de la naves, la nao Victoria, con dieciocho
tripulantes y capitaneada por Juan Sebastián El Cano,
regresó al puerto de Sevilla, el 8 de septiembre de 1522,
culminando la primera vuelta al mundo.
La Fundación Nao Victoria en homenaje a tal hazaña
y sus marinos

On the 2nd of August 1519 in a solemn ceremony that took
place in the church of our Señora de la Victoria that used to
exist on the territory of this Temple of San Vicente de Paul,
the magistrate of the city of Seville, Sancho Martínez de
Leyva and the Bishop of Velandia, Fray Francisco de
Córdoba, the auxiliary for the Archbishop of Seville,
presented Ferdinand Magellan, the captain general
of Spices Navy, with royal banners for five vessels
that would leave Seville August, 10 of the same year.

Victoria, the vessel captained by Juan Sebastián Elcano and
carrying eighteen sailors would become the only one to come
back to the port of Seville on the 8 of September, 1522 to
conclude the first circumnavigation of the world.
